Integrating Learning Through Cooking

Cooking is something where we have to give time and be patient with the dish. Guys I am back with my new article where you can teach your child ample of things through cooking,parents and adults can also get help from the recipe. Cooking activity is an integrated approach where we can connect all the subject with a dish. Being a teacher I felt that cooking is a kind of activity through which children enjoy and learn the concepts easily. In school,when children does these small activities related to cooking,they really learn a lot from it.
So here is my first recipe of donuts which is loved by the people worldwide. Can there be any learning from baking donuts? Ya of course , everything in this world will teach you something. Cooking is an integrated learning,so let's discuss some learning outcomes of cooking donuts for the children.

  • Development of language skills- children get through new vocabulary and they can name the ingredients of recipe ,can converse about it with family.
  • Children develops Math skills like measurement,counting,fractions, different shapes. Before cooking we measure each and everything,so we can teach measurement through cooking.children learn varieties of shapes. 
  • Children develops the skill of problem solving.
  • By understanding how food changes after cooking then science is also integrated in cooking.
  • Geographical condition of food is known while cooking the dish as from where it has been grown,climatic condition required to grow it.
  • Cultural lessons about the diets of people in other parts of the world. 
  • We do our own creativity.
  • We get to know about History lessons about how people used to eat in the past. 
  • Health lessons, such as understanding nutrition and the food groups, as well as appreciating the importance of safety and cleanliness.
  • Fine motor skills, through whisking, measuring, pouring,cutting, kneading dough and rolling. 
  • And of course social skills, such as responsibility, cooperation, sharing, and self-esteem.

Now let's see how we can bake donuts at home with easy steps and then you can involve your child with you. First I tried making it at home,whole article is based on my personal experience. I made it with these ingredients.
Here are the ingredients required to make donuts
1 cup whole wheat flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ cup powdered sugar
pinch of salt
2 tablespoon refined oil
2 tablespoon curd/dahi
2-3 tablespoon milk or as required
For decorating donuts
Chocolate syrup ( for dipping donuts)
Coconut powder 
Now let us try to make the donuts with simple steps.
Take a large bowl. Sieve wheat flour properly,add baking soda,baking powder powdered sugar,pinch of salt, curd ,refined oil and mix it well.
Make a soft dough using milk as required. Keep the dough for rest for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes,coat a drop of oil and again knead the dough for 1 minute.
Divide the dough into 2 half and roll it like thick chapati but thickness should be there.
Cut the rolled chapati with the help of donuts cutter or you can use sharp edge round lid or steel glass for cutting,after that, cut it in center with the help of any small lid,you will get a donuts shape. Prepare all the donuts in same way.
Take a deep pan ,heat the oil ,fry all the donuts in pan in medium flame till golden brown. Keep it in a observant paper and keep aside for cooling.
You can either bake in oven at 200°c for 5 to 7 minutes till golden brown.

Take chocolate syrup in a bowl,dip the donuts into it and spread grated coconut on the donuts and yummy donuts are ready to serve. Thank you for reading this.

Opportunities come upon us every day, only a few can see them and even less know what to do with them. So, here is my article and it will help you, how your children can be engaged in different activities during vacations or any free time. These days children have a lot of time to explore but under the guidance of parents. A home is a place where children spent most of the time. Children are more attached to their homely things. Kids are sensible for the things they see around. Home is a place where children learn by doing the activities on their own, and also by seeing observing the family member's activities.

There are ample of activities which can be done at home under the guidance of elders. Children learn more when they experience something on their own.

Drawing can make Better Visualization
When a person does a drawing, it means he/she is constantly thinking or feeling something, so what they choose to draw, the patterns they use, and the story they try to portray helps them build in their knowledge and visual skills. Their fine motor and coordination skills increase as well. Drawing or sketching is a vision on paper. A child always visualizes the environment around them then only they are able to draw, so drawing in free time makes the child feel happy. Suppose a child has seen a toy, then she will try to draw the same toy by putting her own creativity on the paper, and through this work, the child will be engaged in the drawing work.

Gardening is Love for Nature
This is the second activity which can be done in free time. Gardening is a work where you become sensitive towards nature, nature has ample of plants and trees that can be taken care of. Children love to be in nature, and you can teach them many things with the help of nature. Children love to touch and feel the texture of different leaves and plants, so gardening is one of the best activities to be engaged with nature. They can plant a sapling and water daily, take proper care of the plants, in this way children will be sensitive towards nature.

Craft is Imagination
Here is the most popular activity for children. Craft is an activity in which you need skill with your hand. Crafting requires making things skillfully by hand. Art and Craft is a process that helps a child in exploring, discovering, creating, and experimenting. This altogether helps a child in growing as an individual. Arts and crafts are the way to express themselves. There is no doubt that arts and crafts are fun activities for kids. They learn in the play way method. Through coloring with crayons or making miniature statues from clay, folding paper to create fine origami, or designing a handmade card, there are several craft activities that can enhance the interest of the children and explore their artistic potential. Children can learn different types of the craft just by folding or cutting the paper.

Cooking is an Art
Cooking helps children to do hands-on activities, they develop confidence and skill. Children get an opportunity to use their previous knowledge they have and apply it by counting, measuring, following a sequence, following directions to make that dish. Cooking can aid children in acceptance of responsibility. Children love to do several activities in cooking as well as it is an integral part of learning. Cooking promotes a lifetime skill of healthy cooking starts at a young age. Children may try new dishes, snacks at their home with their parents. How to improve concentration study skill:

  1. Set a study environment. It may be a private room, library (when free in school). There should be no scope of distraction.
  2. Be an active learner
  3. Be full of energy while studying as it is required for full concentration. For getting energy keep taking proper diet, nuts, snacks, water, etc.
  4. Clean and clear your study table. All things on the study table should be related to the subject you are studying currently.
  5. Unplug from unnecessary electronics. Be away from your mobile, computers, laptop, tab, television, if not required for study.
  6. Stick to a routine. Make a proper time table and keep it in front of your study table and follow it strictly.
  7. You can also do meditation to increase your concentration skill for 15 to 20 minutes.
  8. Think of an incentive. Before you start studying, you can think for a reward. For example after completing for 3 hrs you may have talk with your family members.
