Integrating Art in Classroom & Ways of Effective Teaching Techniques

Art is an expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or their emotional power.
And art is a skill which helps in learning how to write. It is a thinking that making and understanding art wood help the child to grow into a hole person capable of expressing our self and having empathy for others. Art education has been recognized as contributing to an extremely wide range of outcomes. There is some learning outcome of arts being integrated in classroom:
  1. Cognitive skills are developed along with critical thinking and habits of mind such as ability to self start and self regulate the work.
  2. Acquiring of personal and interpersonal skills.
  3. It raises IQs and boost scores on standardized test.
  4. Art helps in improving the learning habit in other subjects.
  5. Students will be able to apply knowledge in their current text of their work.
  6. Art offers opportunities for self expression.
  7. Art develops physical skills.
  8. Art encourages creativity in children. Creativity is an individual’s ideas with innovation and experimenting with changing material.
  9. Art develop physical skills as children uses scissors to cut, fingers to paint, drawing with crayons helps to develop physical skills.
Effective teaching techniques:
Art is process of discovering innovative ideas, creating new things and experimenting which is valuable for young children. Here are some techniques for teaching art effectively:
  1. Interact with children about their art work.
  2. Ask as much open-ended questions as you can.
  3. Give children vocabulary words for art.
  4. Tell the child to describe about the art work done.
  5. Tell children to briefly describe about the process.
  6. Teachers can also use brainstorming as a thinking strategy to generate questions related to central idea or topic for drawing.
  7. Students can also work in groups to create an art work.
  8. Children can experiment with hands on activities taken in art classes.
  9. The use visual exposure is especially powerful teaching strategy.
  10. Children can do some guided activity related to art work.
  11. Teacher can use oral explanation method to explain art techniques.
  12. We can give visualization exposure to children; it means the process of seeing anything by imagination.
Integrating arts in classroom:
Integrating the arts will deepen the learning process by enhancing critical thinking, risk taking, collaboration with other things. Art embodies many disciplines we can find psychology in the feelings which is represented in an art. When we use colors, the composition materials show involvements of chemistry. Whenever an art is portrayed, the story tells the history behind the art. In mathematics we can integrate art. We can simply start teaching by introducing a line, color and few shapes with new vocabulary words, by giving visual exposure as it will help to acquire the concept easily.Origami is an extremely relevant and effective art form to facilitate learning in mathematics. All of geometry can be taught using origami. Nature art has lot of connection with math. We can see in counting, patterns, comparing, matching, bigger/smaller, fractions, geometry and symmetry. Children get proficiency in language by medium of expression. When children share their drawing, briefly describes about their drawing they learn new vocabulary and learn to speak. We need to encourage speaking, listening and vocabulary development skills. Art is a powerful tool to communicate learning when we cannot express our idea through writing.
